An Afghanistan economic delegation led by Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Afghanistan Abdul Ghani Baradar, visited Tehran on Saturday.

The 30-member economic delegation held talks on economic cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the representatives of the caretaker government in Afghanistan.

One of the important points of this visit, is the presence of Mullah Baradar at the head of the Afghanistan economic delegation, because he is one of the key people of the Taliban government, who plays an important role in decision-making, and has already acted as the powerful economic arm of the Taliban.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran Minister of Foreign Affairs, met and discussed with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. In this meeting, Amir-Abdollahian pointed out the important position of Afghanistan in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and said Iran is determined to help Afghanistan overcome the current situation.

He also added that Afghanistan’s position regarding Palestine and the current developments in Gaza are of interest, and the Palestinian people expect Islamic countries to effectively support them against the Zionist regime’s war crimes and genocide.

These words by an important Iranian politician show Iran’s benevolent intentions for Afghanistan and Palestine.

  • Why is Afghanistan economic delegation’s trip to Iran important?

The trip of Afghanistan economic delegation led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar is very important and vital in the situation where Afghanistan is not in a good economic situation.

During the 20 years of the republic and the presence of the U.S in Afghanistan, this country was known as one of the poorest countries in the world, and this showed that the U.S and the West are nor willing and are not honest in fulfilling their promise.

However, it seems that the Taliban, with the right understanding, have taken up regional economic interactions and are trying to follow the path of cooperation with the neighbors so that Afghanistan’s economy sees some improvement.

Iran has high economic capacity and strength, and most importantly, Chabahar port and Herat-Khaf railway are the best opportunities to connect Afghanistan to global markets.

Iran and other countries in the region have the capacity to fix the broken economy of Afghanistan, and this capacity will be taken into account in further economic interactions between the countries.

Developing economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries of Iran and Afghanistan in line with common interests is very important.

According to the reports, Mullah Baradar visited Chabahar Port in Iran on Thursday and met with port officials over the need to increase Afghanistan’s exports and imports.

Baradar requested that Iran facilitate easier access to Chabahar Port, enabling Afghanistan to reach global markets more effectively.

Baradar has understood this very well that options such as Chabahar and the Herat-Khaf railway important resources that will lead Afghanistan to a dynamic economy, but it is important that domestic businessmen and capitalists and businessmen of other countries are encouraged to take part in Afghanistan’s economy.

In order to connect to the world and global waters, Afghanistan needs to get closer and closer to the countries of the region, especially Iran, because the port of Chabahar and the Herat-Khaf railway are the only options for this purpose.

Tehran is a great capacity that the Taliban should use and since Iran is currently a good economic partner of the country, this trip is and will be fruitful and important.
